BARBELL TRAINING IS BIG MEDICINE.

STRENGTH AND BARBELLS: THE FOUNDATIONS OF FITNESS.

Article by Michael Wolf. An excellent manifesto for strength training.

THE SQUAT; or HOW I LEARNED TO STOP LEG PRESSING AND USE MY ASS.

Mark Rippetoe discusses the squat, with liberal doses of salty language. Rip is what most folks would call "plain-spoken."

ACTIVE HIP 2.0: THE DIRECTOR'S CUT.

Article by Rippetoe and Bradford on the role of the hip chassis in the barbell squat.

THE YEAR IN STRENGTH SCIENCE 2011.

Dr. Sullivan's annual review of research literature on strength: biology, coaching methodology, health and medical implications, etc.

THE YEAR IN STRENGTH SCIENCE 2012.

More of the same.  Long and nerdy.

THE IMPORTANCE OF WHAT WE DO

Lecture by Dr. Sullivan given at the Starting Strength Coaches' Association Conference at Wichita Falls Athletic Club, October 2012. Long and technical and nerdy, punctuated by occasional eruptions of inappropriate language. But worth it, if I do say so myself.

BOOKS BY MARK RIPPETOE

Mark Rippetoe is the most erudite, eloquent, hardworking and productive exponent of safe, rational effective strength training with barbells working anywhere in the world today. His books are changing the way the world thinks about exercise. Rip didn't invent any of this stuff, but he was the first to put it all together into a complete system and provide solid mechanical and biological rationale for the way we train. Trainees at Greysteel are expected to read both Starting Strength and Practical Programming during their first six months of training.
